AT MY VANITY: Full Face Drug Store Makeup

I thought I’d start calling these posts “at my vanity,” because I love sharing with you all the things I’ve learned about makeup while sitting there, at my vanity, playing around with different products. I’ve only recently started spending time focusing on makeup, but I’ve quickly fallen for it (& I’ve fallen hard!).

I love a lot of high-end makeup products, but for everyday life I can’t justify putting on my $45 foundation. Especially because my day-to-day routine consists of going to the office, sitting behind a computer, and then coming home and taking all my makeup off to go to the gym.

To save myself a little extra pocket change, I’ve found some staple drug store products that I absolutely love. This is a great routine on its own, but I can also mix and match these products with my high-end makeup so that I use everything a bit more sparingly. Without further adieu, here is my full-face drug store makeup routine.

Step 1 \\ Nyx Angel Veil Primer

This is a great, lightweight primer that helps my foundation apply smoothly. I honestly don’t think it makes my makeup last any longer throughout the day, but that’s okay. I’m not exactly looking for a primer that will keep my makeup set through a dance session at the nightclub when it comes to day-to-day wear. I just apply this with clean hands all over my face.

Step 2 \\ L’oreal True Match Lumi (Shade: N3 Neutral)

I love the L’oreal Lumi foundation. L’oreal sells this foundation in cool, neutral, and warm tones so it’s impossible to not find something that will match your skin tone. I like it because it gives my skin a dewy appearance. However, be warned – this does oxidize (aka gets darker once it hits the air), so I would shoot for a shade lower than you think you need. I buff this into my skin with either a brush or a makeup sponge.

Step 3 \\ Maybelline FIT me! Concealer (Shades: 15 Fair & 10 Light)

Out of all the drug store products, this might be my most used! It’s a great lightweight concealer. I’ll use this even on the weekends when I have on my “fancy” makeup. I mix the light and fair shades together and apply them under my eye for the perfect compliment to my skin tone. I then dab them in with a beauty blender, blending the color across the eye, to the temple, and down the side of the nose.

Step 4 \\ Maybelline FIT me! Powder (Shade: 220 Natural Beige)

It may seem a little odd that I use a dewy foundation, just to set it with a matte powder. However, this powder is great for setting the under eye and making sure the rest of your face isn’t tacky to the touch. I don’t think it actually makes you look more “matte.” I put a light coat on my brush and gently tap it all over my face. Be careful not to rub because you’ll take off all that foundation and concealer you just applied!

Step 5 \\ Wet and Wild Contour Palette (Shade: Dulce de Leche)

Although this is a contouring palette, I use it to bronze up my skin. I apply the darker shade to the hollows of my cheeks, the top of my forehead near my hairline, and under my chin/on my neck. Just remember to be careful when applying this, because you can end up with a lot of color on your brush easily – so use a gentle hand. And although I don’t use the light shade day-to-day, it is great to apply under your eye to brighten it up when you’re spending a bit more time on your weekend/night out makeup.

Step 6 \\ Milani Baked Blush (Shade: Luminoso)

This. Blush. It has a great color payoff and is an amazing peachy shade. I smile while applying this to the apples of my cheeks and then drag it lightly back towards my hairline. It has a luminous sheen to it that makes applying any type of highlight completely unnecessary. Meaning I get two products for the price (& application) of one! I’m here for that!

Step 7 \\ L’oreal Brow Stylist Plumper (Shade: Transparent)

I don’t have time to fill in my eyebrows every day, but I do like to give them a little love and attention. This brow plumper helps set them in place. I brush my eyebrows up with a spoolie brush first, and then quickly run this through them. I use the transparent shade, although I’ve heard that the tinted shades are even better.

Step 8 \\ L’oreal Voluminous Carbon Black Mascara

This is just a great everyday mascara. I find more and more that drug store mascaras can be just as good (if not better) than the high-end ones, at a FRACTION of the price. This one is super black and helps give my lashes a little extra curl.

Step 9 // Maybelline Creamy Matte Lipstick (Shade: Lust for Blush)

I talked about my favorite nude lipsticks last week, but when I’m doing a basic face with little to no other color, I think a swipe of pink lipstick makes all the difference. This one from maybelline is a cool-toned pink that feels great on the lips and gives me that little pop of color.

Step 10 \\ Nyx Dewy Finish Setting Spray

To set it all together, I finish my routine with this nyx finishing spray. It sets everything down and gives my skin a dewy, nourished look. This is another great product to use along with high end products. Just spritz across your face and you’re ready to go!

AND (DRUM ROLL PLEASE. . . .) just like that, you are ready to take on the day !
