An Evening in New Albany

Joe and I have been wanting to make the most of the few weekends we actually have in Louisville this summer. It’s about to be a crazy August, where we are traveling literally every. single. weekend. It’s great and I love all the travel we get to do, but sometimes it feels like we miss out on the opportunities right in our own backyard.

This past weekend we decided to hop across the bridge and checkout New Albany, Indiana. Just a short 15 minutes later and we were there! We both agreed that we couldn’t believe we had never been there before. There are a lot of highly rated restaurants, and the downtown is pretty adorable. We headed over to look over the waterfront, before walking through downtown. New Albany is by no means a big city, just a few streets make up the majority of downtown. But we enjoyed exploring. We walked past the most heavenly smelling Italian restaurant, Bella Roma, but we already had dinner reservations scheduled. We’ve made a mental note to definitely return!

We had some time before our reservation, so we popped over to River City Winery for a taste of the local vintage. As you may expect, Indiana wines are not quite as palette pleasing as say, those of California, Italy, or France. Still, it was fun to have an impromptu tasting. We then headed to dinner at The Exchange Pub + Kitchen. The food was delicious. Rarely do Joe and I encounter a menu where there are so many good choices, that we have a hard time narrowing down what we want to order (which is especially saying something given Joe’s allergies!). I opted for the fried chicken, while Joe enjoyed the ramen bowl. Both were absolutely delectable. And the service couldn’t have been any better. Our waiter was the kindest soul, being patient with us when we couldn’t make up our minds, giving us recommendations, and chatting with us.

We drove back across the bridge to Kentucky, stopping to pick up some desserts and Prosecco for home. It was a great night out and we’ll definitely be making a stop back to New Albany sometime soon!
