Maybe Mini \\ Dealing with Weekend Travel

I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but we’ve had a busy month of August. Even though the month is almost over, it feels like we’re just getting started. Joe and I have already been to French Lick, Indiana and St. Louis. The next two weekends I’ll be in Chicago, before we cap it all of with the wedding of our good friends near Northern Kentucky.

We feel very fortunate to be able to travel so much and we really love staying busy! But, all of those road trips can take a toll on your health, physically and mentally, if you’re not careful! It breaks up your normal routine and can leave life feeling chaotic. Below are a few of my favorite tips for surviving busy travel weekends:

1 \\ Tidy up your home before you leave for the weekend. Things can get crazy as your packing for a weekend away, picking out outfits and then discarding them into piles when you realize you don’t have the room. Make sure you at least tidy the house before you leave, because it will give you much better piece of mind when you return from your weekend away & everything is in its place.

2 \\ Stay hydrated. Always, always, always have a bottle of water with you on your road trip. It’s worth the extra bathroom breaks to keep your skin and body hydrated. You’ll feel more refreshed and you won’t have a killer headache when you arrive at your destination.

3 \\ Bring a dirty clothes bag with you. This way, you can throw all your dirty laundry together and keep your clean clothes, clean. It will make your life more organized on your trip, and when you get home you can easily toss everything in the wash.

4 \\ Unpack right when you get home. It will be the last thing you want to do, but if you don’t do it right away, you’ll live to regret it. This is especially true if you’re turning around to go somewhere the next weekend. You’ll continue to push everything off until you’re packing for the next trip. It will leave you feeling frazzled and your home a mess. Take the 15 minutes and get organized after returning home from a weekend away.

5 \\ Take care of your skin when you get home. When we travel we’re usually not eating our healthiest (and by usually, I mean never). That, mixed with unfamiliar water, detergents, and fragrances can leave your skin a hot mess. Find time to give yourself a mini at-home-facial (you can see my routine here), that way your skin can bounce back to normal.
