You’ve probably heard about Rodan & Fields, either through friends selling it on Facebook or perusing the photographs of people getting crazy results from the eyelash serum (it seriously is insane how well that stuff seems to work!). I’ve been wondering if the products lives up to the hype. When my friend Kristen said she’d send me some samples, I jumped at the opportunity.
I was sent three items from the REDEFINE anti-aging line: the daily clay mask, the lip renewing serum, and the intensive renewing serum. Before I started, I was most excited for to try the intensive renewing serum. I remember when this came out, Rodan & Fields made a big deal about it containing RetinAL (with an A) versus what you’ll find in most store products, which is Retinol (with an O). I use retinol every other night, so I was interested in seeing if RetinAl was that much better. . . spoiler alert: it was.
I used this regime consistently for a week and a half, every night before bed. I gave up all my other skin care products during that time, except for my toner and my moisturizer, because I didn’t receive those samples.
The daily clay mask was nice, but you know my feelings on face washes – their only purpose is to take off dirt and makeup, they don’t need all the hustle and bustle, and I especially don’t think they should cost you a fortune. There was something to be said about how unique this was, since you apply it and wait for it to dry before washing it off. I don’t believe it made my skin any cleaner, and when I used my toner afterward, it would still take off excessive makeup (this happens with my normal face wash too.).
I really enjoyed the lip serum. It was hydrating and nonirritating. I still needed chapstick the next day, but my lips weren’t begging for it like they usually are! It’s supposed to reduce fine lines and wrinkles as well, but I ran out of product before I could tell if it lived up to the claim.
And finally, the moment I had been waiting for, the RetinAl. It was truly magical, and I don’t say that lightly. The texture of the product is really smooth. It’s hard to describe, but when you apply it, you instantly feel a softness and smoothness to your skin. After only a week and a half, I noticed that my skin was plumper, the lines around my eyes were less defined, and my skin tone – though not completely even – had fewer spots and blemishes. I was super bummed when I ran out.The only negative is that it’s drying, which is common with retinols (I don’t have any other retinAls to compare it to). I saw more results in a week and a half of using this intensive renewing serum than I have in 6 months of my normal retinol treatments. I am going to put this on my “Must List” for 2018 purchases.
